We do everything in our power to streamline our services and make them as powerful and affordable as possible. There is no company like us. From the unique services we provide to our level of customer service.

Just to prove that our social media marketing methods work for businesses, we wanted to share a few of our numbers from Google Analytics.

Our number one source of traffic is through referring sites (3rd party social media). Dig a little deeper and you’ll find that Twitter is the number 2 sending site followed up closely by Facebook at number 4.

Still unsure whether our social media promotional methods are ineffective? How did you find us? Good chance is that you came from Twitter or Facebook. (If not, we’re still very happy to have you here).

Take a look around the site if you haven’t already and at the very least, leave us feedback and tell us what you think we should be doing differently!

YouTube has been under fire recently for allowing uploads of videos that utilize unauthorized music. How easy is it to find a young teen singing into a hair-brush, performing a cover of some popular piece in his/her bedroom? Right – very very easy. So it would seem perhaps YouTube is not doing much to protect the work of musicians. Sure, there have been a few big-deal, notable cases, but the fact is, infringements are obvious and everywhere on the popular social media site.

I came across this article and decided to share just a little bit of this insight. This post, by Suzanne Lainson, shows that YouTube might not be as apathetic to unauthorized use of music as it is sometimes made out to be. YouTube doesn’t have a perfect system, but it is doing something - trying to give consumers the ability to watch and upload what they want without offending and mistreating those who work so hard to create music. The company is innovating the system, attempting to strike a balance between copyright laws and user creativity.

Users are supposed to get permission from the copyright holder before uploading their videos, but we all know there are a great deal of users out there who do not go that route either because they don’t know any better because they ignored the YouTube instructions, they don’t know how to go about doing so, or they simply think it doesn’t matter. But this does not mean the content will be uploaded without any type of screening. YouTube utilizes a system called Content ID. Each upload is compared to all of the reference files in YouTube’s database. If a match is found, the rights owners are notified and given the opportunity to block or allow the copy to be published. So there is a system in tact on YouTube’s end to protect rights owners. And it’s quite original.

Additionally, YouTube provides the necessary incentive for most rights holders to agree to let their property be used. The exposure one can gain on the site is unbelievable. YouTube offers unmatched opportunities for both rights owners and users. So let’s cut YouTube a little slack. It could be redesigning licensing, opening doors for creativity and recognition and profits. The system is far from perfect, but there is a system, and little by little it seems to be working itself out.

Of course there are arguments on either side of the spectrum and perhaps I’m just easily impressed by this information. Check out the link to find out more about this topic. What do you think? Feel free to share your ideas!

When you are a DIY musician, it is imperative that you surround yourself with a powerful, dynamic group of individuals that will help move your music career forward. One of these critical relationships will be the one you have with your graphic designer. In essence, your graphic designer will be responsible for your branding image. He or she will create your album artwork, website graphics, tour posters, stickers, and anything else that will require retouching. Next to your music, your branding image is the most important thing to ensure is at the highest of standards.

Graphic designers come in all shapes in sizes. Most relationships start of as regular friendships. These friends do your graphic design work just to simply help out or as a favor. These individuals are great to start out with but hopefully sooner than later will have to upgrade (no offense to your buddy, we are sure he/she is a great person). Down the road your graphic design needs will increase and having a professional relationship with a graphic designer will be imperative.

So start networking and poke around a bit! See what resources you have at your disposal. You never know, maybe a friend has a talent you weren’t aware of! Here’s to productive friendships!

HG recently posted a blog about the idea of success in the industry and how that concept should be reevaluated. I just got back from visiting our good friends over at Nimbit and had a great talk with the president, Phil Antoniades. We were discussing an artist we’re both familiar with, talking about how they weren’t selling nearly as many albums as they felt they should be. The artist in question is pretty well established in his niche market, and in the past, has sold tens of thousands of albums per release.

Phil pointed out the difference between three years ago in the industry in comparison to today. There were over 300 artists three years ago that sold over a million records, while only 22 have gone platinum in the past year. On average, an artist who used to sell 1 million records is now closer to selling 100,000.

As you could probably imagine, this really helped to put things in perspective. For an artist who sold 10 thousand records three years ago, today, they’d be selling closer to the 1000 marker.

Before getting discouraged as an artist, re-evaluate the market place. Then go play live shows, and start licensing your music for the big bucks!

Selling over a billion dollars worth of one album is going to be tough to beat. We’ve come to a point in the industry, however, where<ins datetime="2010-04-07T22:13" cite="mailto:Christen%20Enos"> </ins>one needs to re-think their idea of success. One can no longer realistically strive to sell a million albums, as it rarely happens any more. So what are the new benchmarks of success? The real answer can’t be generalized as it<ins datetime="2010-04-07T22:14" cite="mailto:Christen%20Enos">’</ins>s different for each artist, but here are some things worth striving for:

1,000 REAL fans – Fans who will watch your every move, purchase every album you release and be true advocates of your music. 1,000 advocates will put you at a place that is easy to grow to 100,000 but will also give you a level of security: If you release a mediocre album, your committed fan base will still be there to support you.

Organic growth of your fan base – This involves having your music in places that foster organic growth i.e. social media networks. Having a steady climb in numbers tends to mean your music is worthwhile.

Generate enough revenue from your music to make a living! If you’re able pay the rent and buy the groceries by playing gigs, you truly are a successful artist.
